What I'm Loving Wednesday

It's Wednesday ... and the first day of my vacation - woooohoooo!!
I originally was going to take a week off of all social media - a mini break from facebook, twitter, and blogger -- but I think the distraction of What I'm Loving Wednesday link up with Jamie and focusing on some of the things I'm loving this week will give me some happiness (it's been kinda rough for me these past few days).

{#1}
I just finished the 3rd book in the Hunger Games series...and the verdict is:  I LOVED them.

I'm actually sad that it's over. Is there any chance of a 4th book? I really liked the characters, imagery and storyline. I'm really hoping the movie is as good as the books.  I recommend this book to all my bookie and non-bookie friends. It's well worth it!

{#2}
I'm LOVING that I'm making progress on my baby shower gift that I posted about a few weeks ago here

I ended up having to combine two of the patterns from the list I was debating about in that post. The original one I had picked -- once I started it I didn't like the look of the front loop and the back loop. And the second one was all single crochet and I think that would take tooo long! I should be finishing this project up within the next couple days. I'll post finished photos as soon as it's done!

{#3}
I'm LOVING that I finally treated myself to my special do-dad running watch:

Here are a few more things I'm LOVING this week:

I hope you have a good rest of the week!

Book Blogger Hop & TGIF

There are SOOO many good link-ups on Fridays. I want to do them all! BUT I'll try to limit myself to just ... THREE (is that too many?!). I already posted my first link up today HERE. Check it out! It's a Happy Hour Link-up that I really enjoy doing every week.

My second choice is the Book Blogger Hop:
Book Blogger Hop

It's a wonderful BOOK PARTY hosted by Crazy-For-Books every week.

Today's Question:

"WHEN DID YOU REALIZE READING WAS YOUR PASSION AND A TRULY IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR LIFE?"

Answer:
I realized as a kid. My parents read to me each night and looking back I realize what a difference that makes. I don't have kids yet but when I do that is something that will be done EVERY NIGHT. It's so important to get kids interested in books at a young age - it makes a huge difference. Through out my life I've always enjoyed reading. I'll admit: I was (and still am) addicted to the television but as a kid anytime I was on punishment and my t.v. rights were taken away I would feel (in a way) relieved so I could sit down with my pile of books and read.  To this day I still enjoy reading - it's a great escape for me from the daily stresses and pressures I feel. I don't know what I would do with out my books!

My THIRD choice for Link-up today is TGIF at GReads:

Today's Questions:

SUMMER LOVE: WHERE IS YOUR IDEA PLACE TO TAKE A SUMMER VACATION & GET LOST IN A BOOK?

Answer:
My idea place - ANYWHERE where there's clear blue water, sand, hot weather, and a yummy summer drink. WELL I can do without a summer drink - but the others are MUST-HAVES.

Can't you just picture me here lost in a good book ...

...I can see it now!

Happy Reading!

Happy Hour

TGIF!

This week has been an emotional rollercoaster for me -- well every week is an emotional rollercoaster for me -- I blame it on the Stars (I'm a dictionary definition of a Gemini).

My Co-Worker suggested that I make a list of:
5 Things that I like about myself
5 Things that are my CORE being (that I can't change)
5 Things that I can change about myself

So far I've only started one of these lists...the one with the 5 things I can change about myself. I don't know why I had an easier time with that one out of the three but I did. I probably could go on & on with things I would like to change but I have my 5 and my goal is to work on those ... then I can make another list of 5 if need be.

I hope this weekend to relax, read & spend time poolside and maybe even go out ONE night this weekend and dance and drink and have a good time.

I'm linking up with Joelle for HAPPY HOUR. I really like this link-up & Joelle's blog.

Today I'm choosing another Summertime Drink:
 Champagne Punch

{recipe}

 Ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons grenadine
  • 3 tablespoons Cointreau
  • 2 tablespoons brandy
  • 1 3/4 cups champagne
  • Raspberries, apples, or other seasonal fruit

Directions

  1. Fill a small ice bucket halfway with ice. Pour grenadine, Cointreau, brandy, and champagne over ice. Stir gently, and ladle punch into 2 wide-mouthed stemmed glasses. Garnish punch with raspberries, apples, or any other fruit in season.
Sounds Yummy Right?

I hope you have a GREAT weekend!

The Simple Things

Today I'm going to link up with Jesslyn Amber for The Simple Things.
I saw this link-up last week but I didn't have a chance to do it in time -- so I'm thrilled I get to do it today! I think it's a great idea - and a nice way to think about the stuff you have in your life that matter.

Anyone who knows me personally knows that I'm not the most positive person. Especially when it comes to things, events and situations in my life. I'm a "Negative Nancy"  ... a "Debbie Downer" ... a "Party Pooper" man ol' man. I'm all that. And I REALLY need to take a step back and look at the other side of the coin (my coin) and realize that I do have lots of things in my life to be grateful & happy for.

So here the Simple Things I'm Happy for THIS week:

{one} -- FINALLY putting my bike rack on my car ... and ALL BY MYSELF! Last year when I bought the rack the store person put it on my car...and then when I had to do it myself I struggled (my neighbor had to help me) so this year -- on the first try - I got it on. NOW all  I have to do is go and actually get my bike out of storage. But I can't wait to get a few good leisure rides in and see the sights.

{two} ... IT'S SUMMER!!!! My most favorite season. I'm happy it's summer. I can't wait to hit the pool, hit the beach, wear flip flops everyday, where shorts, sunglasses, sunhats -- ALL that stuff!

{three} ... This time next week -- I'll be on vacation! YAY! I can't wait to sit around and do nothing for a week! I just want to watch Maury, eat junk food, and lounge. Also I'll get to spend a few days in Pittsburgh visiting family and doing more lounging and eating there :)
{four} ... I'm greatful to have this blog - and my ... count 'em TWELVE followers! I'm making moves in this world :). Thanks to Jenn for getting my ball rolling :)

{five} ... friends and family who put up with me even on my moodiest of days

{six} ... getting a new day to right yesterday's wrongs <-- don't know if that's something simple but it's on my list!

What are the Simple Things in your life that you're thankful for?

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Hello & Happy Hump Day! I'm linking up with Jamie for What I'm Loving Wednesday!

First - I have to start with the bad before I get to the good: This week I have been SUFFERING! Omg. I consulted with Dr. Google the other day and discovered that I have a bruised bone in my foot. Each step I took these past few days have been so painful I had to urge to cry and puke with every move. Dr. Google told me to ICE. ELEVATE. and REST. It still hurts a bit today but I think I'll be able to bare the pain today and do a run. I've deduced that I hurt it on Friday's 5.28 mile run in which part of the path I ran was BRICK sidewalk (stupid me -- I KNEW while I was running on it that it was too hard) and the pounding of that damaged something inside my foot. Next time (if I run that path again) I will have to run in the street or in the grass. This bruised foot thing is way to painful to get again.

okay -- now for the good:

I'm LOVING the pictures from my run on Sunday. I have to qualify Sunday as one of my favorite runs -- ever! Despite my hurt foot - I was able to run thru the pain and complete a 12 mile run (it was only suppose to be 11) from the Capital Crescent Trail in Bethesda down to the Washington Monument and UP Capitol Hill (it's literally a hill) and to Union Station.  I run with a group called the Montgomery County Road Runners and for this run they had a photographer out catching us. Here are my FAV photos:
me on mile ONE - still looking fresh and energized {photo}
ACTION! Photog caught us mid run -- behind the scenes info: we were just leaving the porta-potty! {photo}
This was only mile 4.75 - a mini break and time for blocks & poweraide {photo}
This is not my group & I don't know any of these ppl but this is a cool shot w/the Monument in the background {photo}

THIS is my group - the 10:30s {photo}

Well that's it for now. I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday and a GREAT rest of the week!

Follow Friday #1, Book Blogger Hop AND of course HAPPY HOUR

Hello Hello & Happy Friday!

Right now I'm feeling excited that I happened upon Parajunkee's blog this morning and I'm more than happy to link up for my first Follow Friday!

Today's Question:

Q. Genre Wars! What's your favorite genre and which book in that genre made it your favorite?

Hmmm...I jump around a lot in the type of books I like to read.  I can't say I have one specific type of genre I stick to. I read a lot of chicklit and african american literature but I basically will read anything that anyone recommends to me. If I had to base today's answer on the book I'm reading now -- I'd have to say it's Dystopian.  I picked up Hunger Games on a fluke ...and I LOVED it. Way more than I thought I would. I was waaaay to eager to run to the book store and pick up the second book in the series -- which I'm only halfway through now. I would like to read more books from this genre, so if you have any suggetions please let me know!

Since I'm at it already -- I'm also going to link up for the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Jennifer. I've already stopped by and read a few folk's blogs about their TBR (to be read pile) which got me thinking of my own.

This week's question:

HOW MANY BOOKS ARE CURRENTLY IN YOUR TO-BE-READ (TBR) PILE?

My to-be-read pile isn't that large -- and that's only because I try to avoid the bookstores because if I go in I KNOW I will spend my rent money, car-payment money, bill money, savings fund, emergency fund, and every last penny in my piggy bank on books. Every time I go into the bookstores I end up loaded up with books that end up just sitting on my dresser. Right now I'm just trying to "borrow" books instead and reading all the ones I currently have on my baskets of books.  But I think that might change. After hopping along some people's blogs I'm getting some good titles to add to my shelves on goodreads.

Now it wouldn't be a GOOD Friday if I didn't link up with Joelle for Happy Hour.

STRAWBERRY MOJITO

{recipe from here}

I had one of these last night when I went out to dinner with my Mom and I have to admit - it wasn't my favorite -- but it was "aight". Try it and let me know what you think:

  • 6 fresh Strawberries
  • 2 Mint sprigs
  • 3 wedges Lime
  • 1 oz. Creme de Fraise des Bois (Cartron)
  • 2 oz. Rum
  • 1 splash Soda water
How To Make It:
Muddle strawberries, mint, lime and Creme de Fraise des Boise hard in a shaker tin. Add rum and fill shaker with ice. Shake well. Double strain (through sieve) into Collins Glass filled with cracked ice. Top with a splash of soda water.

Happy Reading  & Good Drinking To You!

Picture Post

Hello!

Today I'm not feeling too chatty (which isn't good for me -- especially since my job relies on my ability of being a chatty gal) so I'm going with a photo blog post today.  I hope some of these photos perk you up like they did for me :).

Happy Thursday.

What I'm Loving Wednesday!

Wednesday?! Already?! HAPPY WEDNESDAY TO YA!

I'm linking up with Jamie again this Wednesday so I can share with you all the things I'm loving this week.

#1 - I LOVED the new show Ice Loves Coco. Did anyone see it? It was cute and sweet and funny and I really enjoyed it. Much more than I thought I would. I liked they dynamic between the two of them - very sweet and they seemed like a very happy couple. I wonder how much of that is real and how much it is faked. Either way it made for good tv and I'll make sure DVR is automatically set up to record it every week!

{pic of pittsburgh -- have you been?}

#2 - I LOVE the fact that I'm just a couple weeks away from getting my little sisters. They live a few states away and in a couple weeks they'll be in Pittsburgh -- which is close to MD -- which means they'll ONLY be four hours away -- WHICH MEANS -- I'll be hoping in my car and making that four hour trek to Pittsburgh -- WITHOUT A DOUBT! I miss my girls. They're growing up so fast and I'm missing it all.  And I don't mind the drive. When I was a kid I lived in MD and my dad lived in Pittsburgh and every summer he'd come pick me up and drive me back to PA and I would spend weeks just hanging out in Pittsburgh with him, his wife and family.  Going to see my little sisters in a couple weeks will be my 3rd trip to Pittsburgh in the last 4 months.

#3: Here are more things I LOVE this week (these photos say it all):

Happy Hump Day!
