Follow Friday ::: Break-up

Q: Have you broken up with a series? If so which one and why?

I have a couple -- and let me tell you: I'm a series girl.

The first that I had to dump: The Uglies. Didn't enjoy it at all. The idea of it was very interesting but getting into it was something I couldn't do.

I also had to get rid of Beautiful Creatures. The book wasn't THAT bad but the movie REALLY ruined it for me. Omg. I have the stupid character voices from the movie stuck in my head and that trashes every word the authors created.

I also broke up with Fifty Shades of Grey.  I've complained about this series before, so I won't go down that road again.

How about you? Any series you had to dump?

  1. I have a love/hate relationship with the Uglies series. I read through all of them (except for Extras) and I hated books 2 and 3, even though I loved them, too. It was just the use of language. The "pretty-speak" in Pretties drove me batty!
    I didn't read there rest of the 50 Shades books. just the first one, which was enough for me to know it wasn't for me.

  3. I've read the first book of BC and the first 2 books of Uglies. I'm kind of doubting whether I'll read the next books..

  6. I agree with Beautiful Creatures and 50 shades. I can't believe I ever managed to make it through that first book.

  8. I never read any of the Caster Chronicles books, but I really liked the 'Beautiful Creatures' movie. Maybe I liked it BECAUSE I didn't read it. I really want a second movie, but apparently they've abandoned the series because fan reaction to the movie was so bad?

    I still have one more '50 Shades' book to read; I hate to leave a trilogy unfinished, but I did get a little bored by the second one.

    I have left many a series unfinished, though. I loved the first two books in Kate Douglas's Wolf Tales series, but for some reason I never bought the third one. I adore 'Howl's Moving Castle,' but I've never taken the time to read Dianna Wynne Jones's other two books in the series. One of my favorite books ever is 'A Wrinkle in Time,' but I was never very interested in reading the follow-ups. (I think I may have finished one.) I own four books in Donna Grant's Dark Sword series, but I've only read the first one - same deal J.R. Ward's Fallen Angels series.

    I'm a chronic Anne Rice non-finisher. I ran out of steam reading Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles after the first four (and a half); I read 'Angel Time' but not 'Of Love and Evil;' and I started the Mayfair Witches series but couldn't make myself finish 'Lasher.'

    And many more, I'm sure.
